Risk Management Plans

Facilities that are using extremely hazardous substances (EHS) are required to submit a Risk Management Plan (RMP) that act as guidance for the prevention of accidental chemical spills. The RMP includes;

  • A hazard assessment detailing the potential effects should an accidental release occur at facility, a five-year history of any accidents, and an evaluation of worst-case and alternative accidental releases.
  • A preventative program that includes:
    • Safety precautions
    • Maintenance Measures
    • Monitoring Measures
    • Employee Training
  • An Emergency Response program that will address emergency health care, employees training measures and procedures for notifying the public and emergency response agencies should an accident occur.

The plans must be revised and resubmitted every five years. RMP updates must be submitted should a facilities process or retention of hazardous substances change.
