Hazardous & Solid Waste Management & Permitting

The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) was enacted in 1976 as an amendment to the Solid Waste Disposal Act of 1965. RCRA regulates waste management activities and requires hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs) to obtain RCRA registrations and permits from their state agency or EPA.

The objectives of RCRA are to protect human health and the environment from the hazards of waste disposal; conserve energy and natural resources through waste recover and recycling; reduce or the amount of hazardous waste generated; and ensure wastes are managed in a manner that protects human health and the environment.

Hazardous & Solid waste comes in many shapes and forms. Chemical, metal, and furniture manufacturing are some examples of processes that create hazardous waste. RCRA tightly regulates all hazardous waste from "cradle to grave."
