Designated Persons

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) regulations for schools require each District to name a designated person to maintain the schools asbestos management plans (AMP). Maintaining the plan can be a complex task that involves a wide variety of activities. Some of these activities include:

  • Providing yearly written notification to all parents and staff about the status of the AMP.
  • Conducting six (6) month surveillance of all asbestos containing material in all buildings.
  • Ensuring that all asbestos related activities utilizes licensed personnel and is properly documented
  • Ensure that all custodial staff receives awareness training.
  • Ensure that asbestos materials are properly labeled.
  • Inform all contractors of the presence of asbestos in the building
  • Ensure all documentation is readily available at each school
  • Ensure that 3-year re-inspections are conducted by a licensed inspector.

Aires consultants can act as designated asbestos personnel for districts. We ensure compliance with all IDPH requirements. Specifically we perform the following tasks:

  • Provide required annual written notification to parents and staff
  • Conduct six (6) month surveillance inspections
  • Ensure all asbestos related activities are properly documented and readily available
  • Conduct annual awareness training for custodial staff
  • Review labeling of asbestos materials
  • Provide language for contract documents that inform workers of asbestos in the building
  • Are available on an emergency basis 24/7 in the event of an asbestos related emergency.

Best of all we can ensure your management plan meets its objectives of eliminating asbestos exposure to building occupants. This also guarantees a good outcome in the event of an IDPH audit.
